The Eastern Columbia Decks Out Its Pool

The Eastern Columbia Lofts/Building is one of downtown Los Angeles’ most famous Art Deco landmarks. Westcoat was proud to have worked on a project for such an iconic historic-cultural monument.
The penthouse pool deck over living spaces had been leaking due to the concrete deteriorating over years of use, making it rough on the feet to walk on. After the client spoke with Westcoat Representative Bill England, Bill recommended MACoat Custom Finish as a solution to this issue.
Westcoat QCA Tuff-Kote was requested for job installation. The applicators first patched and applied Westcoat’s MACoat Custom Finish onto the existing concrete. A topcoat of SC-35 Water-Based Stain and SC-65 Pigmented Water-Based Polyurethane Sealer Semi-Gloss beautified the deck to match the building’s artsy aesthetic. CA-31 Large Safe Grip allowed for greater slip-resistance, as required for a safe pool-going experience.
Staff, residents, and guests alike admire the fantastic, finished job, and now are happily free to enjoy the pool deck once again!
About MACoat™
The MACoat™ Custom Finish System is a fiberlath reinforced deck system installed with a series of waterproof acrylic applications and sealed with one of Westcoat’s clear sealers. This system’s custom finish can give the look and feel of slate, flagstone or tile. The finished product weighs approximately one pound per square foot.
