The Whittwood Library in Huntington Beach received a face-lift featuring Westcoat’s Texture-Crete Interior system installed by the coating specialists at Empire Waterproofing of Fontana, California.
The original concrete slab was prepped by shot-blasting the surface; cracks were opened and filled with epoxy paste. The floor was then primed with Westcoat EC-11 Water-Based Epoxy and broadcasted with 60 silica sand into the epoxy while wet. A base coat of Westcoat TC-2 Smooth Texture Cement was troweled onto the primer coat, followed by two applications of TC-4 Fine Texture Cement, troweled smooth.
To achieve a warm, rich color, the cement was stained with Westcoat SC-30 Acid Stain in Canyon and neutralized. Empire then stained the floor again, lightly with SC-35 Water-Based Stain in Copper and Mahogany. To conclude, the floor was sealed with two thin coats of SC-65 Water-Based Polyurethane Sealer for maximum protection against the heavy foot traffic often experienced at this popular library.
