Waterproofing for Ala Moana Pool Deck in Hawaii

Honolulu’s landmark hotel Ala Moana is a short walk to the Pacific Ocean and Hawaiian Convention Center with sweeping views across the city, sea and mountains.  

The hotel needed an updated coating on the existing pool deck. A low odor system was a must as the hotel would be open during the pool deck renovation. 

The concrete needed to be waterproofed and have a decorative look. Expert building envelope consultant Trinity ERD and Central Pacific Specialty Contractors (CPSC) worked on this commercial project.

CPSC installed Westcoat’s MACoat Custom Finish waterproofing system with a Moisture Vapor Barrier (MVB). The EC-15 MVB is applied to prepped concrete to reduce the moisture emission rate. This one coat application is compatible with most Westcoat flooring systems. 

The MACoat Custom Finish consisted of large sweeping bands in two contrasting colors.
