MACoat SR for Hilo High School in Hawaii

Hilo High School in beautiful Hawaii had a concrete pool deck that was in bad shape and in need of resurfacing as well as waterproofing. Removing the concrete and pouring new was out of the question so Ross Architect specified Westcoat’s MACoat Solar Reflective Finish Waterproofing system.  

The MACoat system was customized in two ways for this project. First EC-15 Moisture Vapor Barrier was applied to reduce the moisture emissions. After the MACoat was installed, the system was sealed with SC-10 Solar Reflective Topcoat in Powder Blue. Westcoat’s SC-10 SR urban heat island effect making it a top choice for architects looking to meet Cool Roof requirements. 

ADVANTAGES OF MACOAT

Westcoat’s MACoat™ Solar Reflective Finish System is a fiberlath reinforced deck system installed with a series of two or three separate waterproof acrylic applications and sealed with Westcoat’s series of Solar Reflective SC-10 Acrylic Topcoats, that utilize infrared (IR) pigments. The finished product weighs approximately one pound per square foot. MACoat™ Solar Reflective Finish is a Class III permeable vapor retarder and waterproofer. It allows water vapor to migrate up and pass through the coating, while still shedding liquid water from off the top. This is different from most traditional urethane coatings, which are not permeable. This system reduces the Urban Heat Island Effect and can lower the surface temperature. It also meets the Cool Roof requirements of California Title 24*.

Westcoat EC-15 Moisture Vapor Barrier is a uniquely formulated, two component, 100% solids, zero VOC epoxy that is moisture tolerant and diluent free. EC-15 is designed to be applied directly over properly prepared concrete substrates and works to reduce the MVER (Moisture Vapor Emission Rate) of up to 15 lbs/24 hours * 1000 square feet. EC-15 can be used with most Westcoat Systems.
