Pazza Market & Cucina is a new Italian establishment in La Jolla, California’s Westfield UTC Mall. Its restaurant offers an authentic Italian experience offering gourmet dishes cooked using the highest quality ingredients and paired with imported fine wines for customers to enjoy. The specialty marketplace allows patrons to bring the Italian experience home, selling fresh house-made pastas and breads, sauces, drinks, and more top-of-the-line Italian food products.

Westcoat Representative Kevin Ross supported the bidding process and then surveyed the location to determine the appropriate systems and techniques to create the unique desired aesthetics.

The client desired a sealed concrete floor with an old-world stenciled design, which architects at My Studio ID provided renderings for. After a review of those renderings, use of the space, and submittals, the Grind & Seal was specified.

To detail the process, existing concrete slabs were course ground with 30/40 grit metal bond diamonds, and then any imperfections were patched using TC-29 Concrete Patch. After a second grind with 60/80 metal bond diamonds was completed, the surface was vacuumed clean. The surface was ready for stenciling, so SC-10 White Topcoat was applied over the stencils. The SC-10 White dried overnight and the floor was buffed with 120 grit sandpaper to provide a distressed look to the pattern. Finally, the stenciled surface was sealed with clear EC-11 Water-Based Epoxy and a clear SC-65F Flat Finish Polyurethane topcoat.

Danny Torres and Victor Lopez of Westcoat QCA SC Coatings Corporation installed this custom floor utilizing patience, process, and attention to detail. The aesthetically unique and one-of-a-kind concrete floor has been well received by the owner and patrons alike. You won’t miss this impressive artistic job when visiting Pazza!
