Temper-Crete Supports Performance in a Demanding Multi-Use Venue
At a venue like Allegiant Stadium, flooring performance is about more than surface appearance. It is about safety, durability, operational efficiency, and long-term value.
When the stadium needed a new flooring option, the Stadium Operations Team issued an RFP for a replacement system that could support the building’s demanding event schedule. The answer was Westcoat’s Temper-Crete with UV Topcoat, installed across 96,000 square feet of event floor.
Designed to handle large-scale events, daily operations, and the movement of a retractable natural turf field system, the completed floor now delivers the resilience and reliability expected in one of the nation’s premier entertainment venues.
Built for a demanding multi-use environment
Allegiant Stadium is designed to host a wide range of events, including NFL games, concerts, boxing, UNLV football, WWE, and more. In this multi-use setting, the natural grass field sits in a massive tray that rolls in and out of the building depending on event needs.
That meant the exposed event floor needed to do several things well: stand up to heavy traffic, support operations crews, contribute to attendee safety, and perform without interfering with the stadium’s complex functionality.
The previous VCT floor was no longer meeting those expectations. A more durable, seamless, and lower-maintenance solution was needed.
Proven through mockup testing
Westcoat was brought into the conversation after Southwest Specialty Contractors recommended the system, and Westcoat representative Glade Tonks was invited to present solutions and recommendations.
Before full installation, a mockup was completed in the stadium’s trash areas to test both durability and cleanability. The system performed exceptionally well, giving the project team confidence that Temper-Crete SLB was the right fit for the application.
Why Temper-Crete was selected
For a facility operating on tight event schedules, material performance and installation efficiency both mattered. Temper-Crete SLB with UV Topcoat was selected based on a range of benefits critical to the project, including:
- Moisture resistance up to 99% RH
- Self-leveling performance
- Built-in slip resistance
- Two-coat application
- Consistent cure times to help reduce downtime
- UV resistance
- Low-maintenance durability
Together, these features made Temper-Crete a strong choice for a high-profile venue that required both reliable performance and streamlined execution.
Project scope
The flooring replacement began with full VCT demolition. The floor was then ground to remove glue and contaminants and shot blasted to the specified CSP 4–5 profile.
The new system included:
- Temper-Crete SLB at 3/16 inch
- #30 silica broadcast
- EC-28 Temper-Crete UV Topcoat in Pewter Gray
In addition, a Rake Trowel Temper-Crete system (Thicker to handle the slope) was installed on two sloped field access ramps at the north end of the stadium. Those areas received a coarser aggregate broadcast and topcoat to enhance slip resistance and improve durability under heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Execution that exceeded expectations
Originally scheduled in seven phases, the removal and replacement were ultimately completed in just 3 super phases, allowing the project to finish two months ahead of the original schedule.
That kind of acceleration required extensive preplanning and close coordination across all parties involved.
CDPI Concrete Diamond Polishing Innovations, led by Scott Fouts, handled demolition and prep using large, highly organized crews. Their teams removed the VCT flooring and completed surface prep in less than 24 hours per phase using ride-on scrapers, vacuums, concrete saws, planetary grinders, generators, shot blasters, bobcats, auto scrubbers, and multiple dumpsters.
Southwest Specialty Contractors, led by Eli Montoya, deployed up to 19 installers to meet critical installation timelines, ensuring turnover windows were achieved.
To maintain consistency across the project, all Temper-Crete materials were manufactured in fresh custom batches. Materials were also pre-staged inside the stadium to acclimate the conditioned airspace, held at approximately 73 degrees, before installation began.
Collaboration that drove success
Projects at this scale require more than the right material system. They require teamwork, planning, and communication from start to finish.
Westcoat’s Glade Tonks and CDPI’s Scott Fouts were instrumental in helping coordinate expectations and ensure project requirements were met before, during, and after installation. Allegiant Stadium’s Operations and Facilities Departments also played a key role, providing the support and coordination needed to keep the project on track within an active, high-profile venue.

A result that performs under pressure
The project began in the fall and was completed in December 2025, performing successfully through its first busy NFL and holiday season.
