- What’s the life expectancy of an epoxy floor?
This varies, but resinous flooring systems can perform for many years when properly maintained, inspecting every 2-5 years and reapplying topcoat as needed. See more information in our General Maintenance Guide. - What problems can occur with an epoxy floor?
The most common problem is choosing the wrong system for the use of space. For example, a high-build system is required but a thin film system was installed that can’t handle the working environment. Surface preparation and testing for moisture are key to promoting proper adhesion. - What can I do in terms of maintenance to extend the epoxy floor’s life to the fullest?
Install the system properly, clean, and maintain it to preserve the life of the floor, proper inspection and reseal as needed to protect and extend the life of the system. - Can my maintenance staff install the floor, or does it need a specialist?
For professional use only. A properly trained, equipped, and licensed QCA should install our systems. We have a nationwide network. Once installed, maintenance teams can perform regular maintenance such as cleaning and resealing the topcoat. - How long does a typical installation take?
Varies based on the conditions and size of the job but we offer many fast dry and quick turnaround for the demanding customer. - Does the epoxy emit chemical or other odors for which I need to close the facility during installation?
Westcoat strives to provide the highest quality with low VOC / 100% solids, water-based and other options to allow for low odor, non-flammable flooring options to minimize impact to our customers. - Does a new epoxy floor emit any odors after drying? How long does that go on?
With proper ventilation, our low VOC products’ odor subsides after the product cures. - What kind of surface works best? What kind of surface preparation is needed?
Epoxy systems are designed and suitable for concrete substrates with a minimum of 2500 psi and approx. cured for 28 days. The concrete should be in good condition. Westcoat provides guidelines for surface prep based on the system per ICRI industry standards. - What are my options in terms of colors or textures?
We offer many colors in a variety of solid and decorative finishes including metallic, quartz sand, acrylic chips. Additionally, we offer extensive topcoats and sealers with a variety of sheens.
