This Hot Job comes to us from Bach Custom Coatings in Oregon,

From Jeff at Bach Custom Coatings:

This patio had three pours done at different times. As a result, there were very different mixes resulting in significantly different colors and textures. The homeowner tried applying a semi-transparent stain and a low grade acrylic sealer over it to level out the colors, but the results were disastrous. The stain was blotchy and the sealer did not bond. That’s when they decided to throw in the towel and call in a professional. They simply wanted a clean, consistent look with a neutral color so we made a few mock up boards with various textures and hues of gray for them to look at.

After they approved one of the samples, we installed the following system: Diamond ground the entire surface to remove all of the old stains, sealers and different broom finishes. We then applied EC-12 clear and seeded it with #70 silica sand. We then troweled it with TC-5 and followed by using TC-4 with a skip trowel technique. This gave it a custom look and would provide for nice slip resistant texture, especially important considering part of the project was around a pool deck. After troweling, we applied SC-35 Water-Based stain in the color “Shale” using two applications. We finished the system by sealing it with EC-96  clear “Satin” Urethane.  They were absolutely blown away at the results! This 2,500 sq. ft. patio is now a place where the clients can proudly spend time.
