Earlier this year, several Westcoat systems were installed at Ballast Point Brewing Company’s massive new Miramar location. This new brewery space a couple different solutions for the different areas.
When you first step inside be sure to look down! Skilled craftsmen cut a large compass into the concrete floor to complement the Ballast Point brand, the entryway floor featured a nautical compass colored with Acid Stain in black and chocolate.
In the dining and tasting areas, our grind and seal process was utilized as seen above. The building’s existing concrete was prepped by grinding with 30/40 grit diamonds and holes and divots were patched with Westcoat TC-29 Concrete Patch and then ground flush. Decorative saw cuts were added throughout the dining room, to create a stronger aesthetic appeal.
In the kitchen, the Level-It and Dubro Quartz systems were both used to create the look and durability Ballast Point needed in the high traffic area. Level-It is a self-leveling, quick drying floor system designed for interior use in both commercial and residential spaces. Its high build is well suited for use over existing concrete substrates as it transforms rough, ragged surfaces to smooth, uniform finishes.
The Dubro Quartz system was then installed over the newly leveled floor for increased protection. The Dubro Quartz, or Double Broadcast, system consists of two layers of clear epoxy with TC-65 Quartz Sand broadcast throughout. This provides a high build floor and great traction for kitchens and any other high traffic area where slips may be a concern.
Lastly, the floors had to be finished with a combination of topcoat sealers. Westcoat EC-32 High Build Epoxy Topcoat was applied for more build and protection. Then EC-95 Polyurethane Topcoat was used to seal the entire space for a completely seamless floor, with high chemical and mar resistance. Westcoat’s topcoats and sealers are the ultimate protection for high traffic areas such as a busy kitchen.
In the brewing facility Temper-Crete was used to protect the already wearing concrete. After the floors were prepped by diamond grinding, Westcoat’s Temper-Crete Urethane Cement was installed for its durability and easy-to-clean features. Westcoat Temper-Crete Urethane Cement is a high build, fast drying, self-leveling urethane cement matrix with excellent adhesive strength and thermal shock resistant qualities—perfect for the rigor of a brewery.
